HUDCO’s Human Settlement Management Institute is the Research and Training Department of Housing & Urban Development Corporation Limited (ISO 9001:2015 certified). HSMI was established in 1985 under Indo – Dutch collaboration with the Institute for Housing and Urban Development (I.H.S), Rotterdam, the Netherlands as a Research and Training Wing of HUDCO, to provide training support for professionals and a forum for interaction of Administrators, Professionals, Researchers and others engaged with the issues of human settlement development
While strengthening the borrowing agencies through training, HUDCO’s HSMI helps in generating viable projects to improve HUDCO’s lending operations directly as well as indirectly.
This gives the institute a rare twin character of a Research & Training wing for capacity building, while also operating as a sector specialist institute.
The institute has a multi-disciplinary faculty team consisting of professionals drawn from engineering, architecture, town and regional planning, economics, and social development streams. Also, professionals from HUDCO corporate and regional offices, who are actively engaged in the mainstream financing and appraisal operations of housing and urban infrastructure projects, provide professional inputs to support training programmes. The faculty of HSMI has diverse and rich experience as well as participation in national and international Forums, dialogues, discussions and policy formulation for the housing and urban development sector. Besides, Government of India officials, eminent academicians and professionals working in this sector regularly provide resource inputs and are invited to give inputs on the theory and current practices in urban management and sustainable development.
