GUNDERT MUSEUM

The Gundert museum belongs to the cultural circuit of the Thalassery Heritage Project, which covers destinations that reveal the
unique culture and tradition that plays an important role in promotion of tourism in North Malabar declared by the Department
of Tourism, Government of Kerala. This was the bungalow where a famous German missionary named Dr. Herman Gundert stayed
for 20 years for his research work on cultural and social activities. Both the Bungalow and Thalassery are famous for his literary
works and workshops of this scholar. It was at Gundert Bungalow that one of the first Malayalam dictionaries and the first
Malayalam newspapers - Paschimodayam – came into being.

This museum is the best place for literary lovers and history buffs. Hence it is converted as a language museum and German
Study center. It can be the seat of literary activities and houses a library and seminar spaces.
