INTRODUCTION OVERVIEW
The genesis of project lies in the devastation wreaked by Project name : Room for river
the 2018 Kerala floods. Eloor, located along the banks
of the Periyar river, has long been vulnerable to flooding. Project location : Eloor, Kerala.
The 2018 deluge exacerbated the situation, causing Client area : Purushan
widespread destruction and loss of property. Like many Completed year : 2021
other places in Kerala, the houses in Eloor region also Project area :
suffered extensive damage during the calamity. Determined
to find a sustainable solution, the client of this project Built up area : 3000 sqft
decided to recycle his damaged 25-year old concrete
house rather than demolishing it entirely. Home inspired by flood mitigation strategy
“Room for river” and made with upcycled materials of
debri, mud and bamboo.
