The building’s orientation blocks sunlight for at least half the day, creating a distinct X-shaped morphology.
CONCEPT & DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The form and orientation of the building itself played
an integral part to achieve the numerous sustainability
goals. The distinct X-shaped morphology of the building
responds to Nagpur’s location, just below the Tropic
of Cancer and its accompanying tropical wet and dry
climate.
To maximise diffused daylight penetration and limit heat
gain, each wing of the building is oriented at an angle of
22.5 degrees to the tropic of Cancer, with the central
intersection forming the core. The depth of each of the
floor plates is limited to 18m, ensuring that 90% of the
workspaces are completely day-lit, with light entering
from either edge of the floor.
