“PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES THROUGH THE NATIONAL RURAL BUILDING CENTRE”

            BACKGROUND
                • The Building Centre or Nirmithi Kendra concept actively promoted by HUDCO and numerous of them were established across
India which have the potential to promote sustainable building technologies.
                • Unfortunately most of them have become either non-functional or the few which are functional play a very limited role due to
various administrative and management factors at the State level.
                • However, building centres which are created in institutions and colleges with a focus on civil and architecture activities can
play a vital role in demonstrating and promoting sustainable building technologies.
                • The National Rural Building Centre (NRBC) established with the support of HUDCO is one such example which can be
                   successfully replicated across India.

                   building concept.
                • The demonstration units also showcase various the model houses built using sustainable housing technologies for PMAY
houses, panchayat buildings, anganwadi centres, etc., in the NRBC

sustainable housing technologies to various agencies and professionals engaged in the housing domain.

                • In addition, workshops, seminars and research activities on sustainable housing technologies are also organised for

                • The centre brings together a range of cost-effective construction technologies with variety of materials, technologies and
