“PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES THROUGH THE NATIONAL RURAL BUILDING CENTRE”
BACKGROUND
• The Building Centre or Nirmithi Kendra concept actively promoted by HUDCO and numerous of them were established across
India which have the potential to promote sustainable building technologies.
• Unfortunately most of them have become either non-functional or the few which are functional play a very limited role due to
various administrative and management factors at the State level.
• However, building centres which are created in institutions and colleges with a focus on civil and architecture activities can
play a vital role in demonstrating and promoting sustainable building technologies.
• The National Rural Building Centre (NRBC) established with the support of HUDCO is one such example which can be
successfully replicated across India.
