Post Disaster Revival Plan - A Universal Blueprint for Sustaining Mountain Towns
Public open spaces in the masterplan vision are organised in five zones-
(1) Kedarnath Temple Plaza
(2) Temple Street and Arrival Plaza
(3) East Side River Front ghat
(4) West Side Reiver Front ghat
(5) Shiv Udhyan (memorial for lives lost in the 2013 floods) and Adi Guru Shankarachaya Samadhi
The approach to the temple is clearly defined as a central axis, leading from an arrival plaza at the base, with the entire declared
a non-vehicular zone. The surrounding residential settlement is being rebuilt as clusters on raised plinths to guard against
floods, and around courtyards for ventilation and social interaction. Mid-way along either side of the central approach, open
spaces bordered by shaded colonnades accommodate shops catering to locals and pilgrims. Thus, different categories of
open spaces punctuate the built space and encourage social cohesion.
