SUSTAINABLE DESIGN RESPONSES TO EXISTING AND FUTURE CALAMITIES

The resilience of the plan is magnified in its readiness to confront a hypothetical 100-year flood scenario. The land parcels
facing erosion are fortified with retaining walls. Also, new buildings are designed with elevated plinths, which protects against
snow melting, rain and flooding. The urban layout and structures follow guidelines for seismic design. The master plan follows
a terrace development approach, with parcels delineated according to the natural slope, ensuring each cluster harmoniously
integrates with the overall site gradient, thereby enhancing stability and resilience. Ample courtyards, with a collective capacity
to accommodate 28,000 individuals, serve as designated safe havens, and are connected to the central axis to facilitate swift
and unobstructed evacuation procedures. Two-tiered retaining walls fortify the Saraswati and Mandakini rivers ghats, while
peripheral pathways ensure unimpeded access for emergency services. Elevated spaces such as the temple plaza, Saraswati,
and Mandakini plaza, capable of accommodating a total of 10,000 people, serve as airlift zones in times of crisis. Advanced
early warning systems for landslides and fires have been installed to bolster disaster preparedness.
