LIFE EXPECTANCY
The mortality experience among general population as against the elderly population contributes to the faster growth of the latter group. This improvement
in life expectancy has been substantial in most of the states. Currently all the states have higher life expectancies at old ages for women than for men. Thus
there is a need of focusing more on the social and personal requirements of the female elderly.
MARITAL STATUS RELIGION
Loss of spouse in old age adds significant vulnerability in later
years. Feminization of ageing has increased widowhood. Dis-
crimination and negligence had made these women more vul-
nerable and dependent on others.
Religious diversity amongst the ageing population will create more opportunities
for socializing and preventing loneliness.
