It is often claimed that ageing is accompanied by multiple illnesses and physical ailments. In most of the primary surveys, the indian elderly in
general and the rural aged in particular are assumed to have some health problems.

A. DISEASES Mental health status worsened with advancing age
indicating higher mental health vulnerabilities
among the old. Poor and less educated women
suffer more.
ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING (ADL)

COMMON :
WOMEN : arthritis, hypertension, cataract, diabetes
MEN: asthma, heart disease
The old are most vulnerable to diseases. Elimination of ill-health and
raising of the level of nutrition would improve the standard of living of the AGE
ageing population.
B. DISABILITIES
With the increasing age, disability becomes a major concern, limiting
functioning in daily life. Hence increasing the care giving burden.
There is an increasing need of designing assisted living for seniors who
require varied levels of medical support such as care givers and nursing.
PHYSICAL DEPENDENCY
INDEPENDENT : the active senior citizens
do not require daily assistance and care and
are comparatively healthier both mentally
and physically.
ASSISTED : these elderly face problem
Total 4% of elderly population is suffering from some kind of disability. in performing daily activities like bathing,
